Cognitive work hardening is a work-oriented intervention to prepare an individual to return to work, after a period of extended sick leave or disability leave due to mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc.
Mental health conditions like depression can impair attention and memory and other important cognitive functions, which can negatively impact return-to-work success.
A referral for cognitive work hardening result in an assessment and a work hardening plan based on the assessment results. Sessions are designed according to each individual’s challenges and work requirements, frequency and length increase over the duration of the intervention. The intervention can take from 3 to 8 weeks.
